8 year-old Dubai-based Egyptian boy desires to join Man City

Omar Sherif, an aspiring eight-year-old Egyptian player based in Dubai, has just won the award for ‘best player in the Academies Championship’ and received the highest number of votes at all stages throughout the year. He is now on his way to fulfilling his dream of joining Manchester City, the premier English football club.

The Dubai Sports Council recently organized the event, which was witnessed by dozens of children from various sports academies.

Sherif, a member of Al-Ittifaq Football Club(IFC), has played football since he was four years old.

“I am thankful to my followers for voting for me, as I received the most votes. This accomplishment will enhance my football abilities, and my fans will be thrilled to see me on the field with the premier club,” he exclaimed.


He began playing football at the academy of the Spanish star Michel Salgado, then transferred to the academy of the English club Manchester City, and finally to the academy of the Wadi Degla Sports Academy in Dubai. Recently, he joined the Emirati club Al-Ittifaq Football Club (IFC) under the direction of technical director and head coach Amr Zakaria, who praised Omar Sherif’s abilities and character.

Amr Zakaria stated, “The young player, Omar Sherif, has high sports skills and also possesses remarkable physical strength and flexibility, which he demonstrated during the training he underwent in the preceding stages and also qualified him to be the best among his peers.”

As a result of his remarkable dedication, he (Omar) will rise to a level where he deserves to be through his professional training sessions throughout the year. He also mentioned that the club has decided to grant him leadership of the team during matches due to his moral and literary commitment as well as his exceptional abilities.

It is also mentioned that more than 2,000 people participated in the final voting for the best player award, with the votes going to Omar Sharif, who was supported by a large number of mainstream media and social media influencers.
