After an argument with Joel Glazer, Erik ten Hag was instructed to scrap his transfer to Manchester United.

The club’s co-chairman, Joel Glazer, may thwart Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s attempts to sell striker Anthony Martial this summer. The forward is admired by Glazer.

When Jose Mourinho attempted to lure then-Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic to Old Trafford by luring Anthony Martial away from Manchester United, the club’s Glazer family proprietors thwarted his attempts to sell Anthony Martial.

Glazer intervened and refused to approve the French forward’s departure, despite the obvious benefits to Manchester United at the time.

He even compared Martial to the Brazilian icon Pele, demonstrating that he regards him in the highest regard.

However, it has been 28 months since Martial completed a full Premier League match, and he was ruled out of the FA Cup final due to injury – the sixth time he has been sidelined this season, indicating a long-term trend of fitness problems.

“Yeah, it’s going to be a long one, but how long we don’t know,” Ten Hag said of Martial’s injury, which he sustained in the Premier League season finale against Fulham. “We must conduct more evaluations.”

According to the Manchester Evening News, Martial’s injury setback could prevent him from leaving the club during the summer, as he would need to undergo a medical elsewhere to prove his fitness credentials.

United are prioritizing the acquisition of a starting central striker this summer, but they are also evaluating the sale of Anthony Martial and the potential signing of an additional forward with Wout Weghorst’s loan deal expiring at the end of the season.

In contrast, Martial has scored just nine goals in 29 appearances during a season marred by fitness issues and a protracted lack of form.

Since the 2019/20 season, he has failed to score in consecutive Premier League matches, which is not optimal for United’s aspirations.

Ten Hag, Martial’s fifth manager at United, has publicly expressed his admiration and support for the forward. Last month, he said, “When he’s on the field, he’ll score.”

“He will link up, he will perform well in the press, and he is extremely essential to us. When he’s in shape, he’s a monster for us.”

United has not ruled out the possibility of acquiring two central attackers this summer if Martial and Weghorst leave.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Tottenham’s Harry Kane are viewed as primary but potentially unavailable targets, while Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos are more affordable options.
