Ajax director delivers update on Arsenal, Chelsea-linked Mohammed Kudus

Despite recent speculation encircling the attacker Mohammed Kudus, Ajax sporting director Sven Mislintat insisted that nothing imminent is happening with Kudus.

During the 2022-23 season, the 22-year-old was in excellent form for his Dutch club, making 42 appearances in all competitions, netting 18 goals and registering seven assists.

In addition to playing for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup, where he scored twice, a number of clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring him this summer.

The attacker has two years remaining on his contract in Amsterdam, but he could be available for approximately £40 million.

The forward has been heavily linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea, although there have been conflicting reports regarding a potential move to London.

A recent report indicated that Chelsea were the frontrunners, but Kudus reportedly prefers Arsenal over the Blues, who will not participate in the Champions League in 2023-24.

Mislintat stated that clubs had made ‘informal enquiries’ and that a summer transfer was conceivable, but the Ajax sporting director stated that “the interest is not as serious as everyone believes.”

“Several clubs have inquired informally about him,” he told Ajax Life. “I do not anticipate receiving an offer anytime soon, although you are aware that anything can happen in the realm of football. Maybe the interest is not as strong as everyone believes.”

In a separate interview with Aglemeen Dagblad, he stated: “There is no fixed deadline, but there are agreements we must have to get replacements if we have not already done so proactively.”If Kudus and (Edson) Alvarez remain, we will retain two elite players. However, it is also conceivable that one or both go.

“It is essential that our relationship with the athletes remains positive. This can be achieved through transparency and the application of sound principles. As the deadline approaches, the transfer fee, for example, increases.”

Manchester United is reportedly keeping a close watch on the situation, compiling a list of potential replacements for Atalanta BC forward Rasmus Hojlund.

Earlier this summer, Brighton & Hove Albion were linked to Kudus, but talk of a prospective move to the Amex has since subsided.

In 2020, the attacker moved to Ajax from Nordsjaelland, and he has appeared for the Eredivisie club 84 times in all competitions, netting 23 goals and registering 11 assists.
