Ange Postecoglou has £60m answer to Spurs striker’s question with excellent Tottenham signing.
Richarlison will hope that his hat-trick in Tottenham’s victory over Lion City Sailors in a preseason match is a sign of things to come during the 2023/24 campaign.
The summer signing from Everton endured such a frustrating debut season for the Lilywhites, despite making his impact in north London with a pair of Champions League goals against Marseille in his first weeks with Spurs. It wasn’t until the end of April that he scored his first Premier League goal for the club, after suffering three separate injury-related layoffs.
The 26-year-old’s Spurs woes appeared to continue into the new season after wasting some glorious opportunities in their 3-2 friendly loss to West Ham. This is a crucial year for the player as he seeks to get his Tottenham career back on track under Ange Postecoglou. However, he put them behind him and responded in the best manner possible against Lion City Sailors by scoring a hat-trick.
The attacker scored three minutes after his halftime introduction as he was in position to convert after Giovani Lo Celso’s low shot was saved, then capitalized on a defensive error four minutes later before completing his hat-trick late in the game. Richarlison told SPURSPLAY after the game that he was “over the moon” after scoring a hat-trick, and he now has his fingers crossed that he will score more goals for Postecoglou’s squad.
If Tottenham’s eye-catching attacking play from their first two friendlies can be transferred to the Premier League season, he will have ample opportunities throughout the duration of the campaign. Spurs have registered an incredible 69 shots on goal in their first two matches, which bodes well for their future as they seek to return to the attacking football for which they are known.
It remains to be seen whether Harry Kane will be the starting striker at the beginning of the season. Now in the final year of his contract with Tottenham, Bayern Munich have been extensively linked with a high-stakes move for the forward, whose future is currently uncertain.

“They are unique strikers. They have distinct strengths,” the 57-year-old acknowledged. Both have a genuine presence in the penalty area, which is why Harry Kane has scored so many goals and is one of the best strikers in the world.
“Richy is also a presence in the box, but in a different way, so I believe they both have the necessary qualities to play in that area. I also believe that Richy can play wide and as a second striker, primarily because he has a really strong work ethic, which I believe is underrated. He works diligently for the team, and much of what he does is unseen.
“His pressing and dashes, even when he doesn’t get the ball, are a constant annoyance for defenders. Consequently, he can play multiple positions.”
Richarlison must have fate on his side this upcoming season, as it completely deserted him during the 2022-23 season. A sustained run in the squad could be the key to Tottenham’s eventual success, but that may depend on what transpires in the Kane transfer saga and where the 29-year-old will be playing his football come September 1.
Richarlion’s hat-trick against Wednesday’s preseason opponents must be taken into account, but the player was in the right place at the right moment three times, and his treble will undoubtedly boost his confidence. Whether Kane remains or leaves this summer, Postecoglou must have a replacement for the England forward when he is out of the lineup.
Richarlison is in the same position as Yves Bissouma, who is perceived by some as a new signing for Tottenham, and as Postecoglou, based on his struggles and lack of action last season. The former Watford player may have the opportunity to lead the line for Tottenham this season. He has demonstrated his ability to do so on multiple occasions as Brazil’s No. 9.
Richarlison has a great deal more to offer, and Postecoglou may be the key to the attacker reaching his maximum potential at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
