According to reports from Turkey, Arsenal and its sporting director Edu are now “aggressively” pursing a deal for Galatasary defender Victor Nelsson.

Who will join with Arsenal?

Manager Mikel Arteta has received significant support thus far in this transfer window, following a 2022/2023 season in which he fell just shy of the title to eventual treble-winners Manchester City.

The Gunners were in first place for the majority of the season, but Pep Guardiola’s side finished the year in dominant fashion, necessitating a reorganization and strengthening of key positions for the upcoming season.

Kai Havertz, a German international and former hero at Bayer Leverkusen, was the first player to arrive at Arsenal this summer, with the club paying £65 million for his services.

“Kai is a player of the highest caliber,” Arteta said after his acquisition.

“He is a highly versatile and astute player. He will add a tremendous quantity of additional strength and variety to our midfield.

We welcome Kai and his family to the Arsenal Football Club, and are eager to begin working with him when preseason training commences shortly.

Declan Rice was acquired from West Ham United by Arsenal for a club-record sum of £105 million, making him the most expensive English player ever, surpassing both Jack Grealish (Manchester City) and Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid).

Ajax defender Jurrien Timber has also joined Arsenal from the Eredivisie, but the Gunners could still add more players despite their recent activity.

The likes of Gremio midfielder Bitello and Montpellier forward Elye Wahi have been linked this week, and according to a report from Fanatik, Arsenal are now pursuing Galatasaray’s Nelsson.

The 24-year-old, who participated in last year’s World Cup in Qatar, is the focus of interest from north London, with both Arsenal and Tottenham “insistently” pursuing his signature.

Nelsson is reportedly in transfer negotiations to leave Galatasaray, and if Arsenal wish to acquire him, they only need to pay his release clause of £21 million.

If they are able to beat Tottenham Hotspur to Edu’s signature, it appears to be a transfer that is entirely feasible.

How impressive is Victor Nelsson?

The Turkish press has lauded Nelsson for his performances with Galatasary, dubbing him the team’s “star player.”

No other member of their starting XI has a higher rate of aerial duels won or clearances made per ninety minutes in the Super League (according to WhoScored).

The statistics indicate that Galatasary manager Okan Buruk considers Nelsson an indispensable member of his starting eleven.

No other Galatasary outfielder played more minutes in the league than the Denmark international in 2022/23, which may indicate his dependability (WhoScored).

Jacek Kulig, a scout for football talent, predicted on Twitter in 2020 that he would become a superstar.

Kulig remarked, “Nelsson is a fantastic combination of a pure defender and a ball-playing center back.”

“He is also capable of playing defensive midfielder. Excellent defensive abilities combined with outstanding ball skills. The prospective chief of defense for Denmark.”
