Arsenal has Mikel Arteta’s blueprint to avoid losing their signing target and William Saliba’s transfer errors
The upcoming summer transfer window is crucial for Arsenal as they implement the next phase of their plan to attain the top.
The previous season demonstrated that the Gunners are on the correct track, with their young talent propelling them towards the Premier League championship.
While they were defeated by Manchester City, the return to the Champions League adds to the appeal of the Emirates Stadium initiative. There are distinct areas in which the team can improve, both through internal solutions and external additions to the roster.
One of these internal concerns involves the long-term viability of William Saliba, who excelled in his first season in England.
The 22-year-old has one year remaining on his contract, with a one-year club option, and the club’s decline in performance following his injury late in the season only strengthens his position in extension discussions.
The Sun reports that negotiations for a new contract have taken place, but the Gunners and the defender’s compensation demands are far apart. This could cause panic, but Arsenal must stick to their plan to prevent agreeing to a deal that isn’t on their terms.

In both instances, it may be advantageous for the north London club to follow their transfer market precedents, even if it means missing out on a target or losing a player.
Throughout their journey with Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have lost out on targets as a result of a change in their transfer strategy that involved setting a price limit and sticking to it regardless of the temptation to deviate.
This was also a theme during last year’s summer transfer window, when the manager discussed potential moves that were ultimately avoided:
“Yesterday, if it had been the right player, the right transaction, and something we could afford, we could have done something.
“Sometimes it is necessary to react to an occurrence; we would have done so, as it was a distinct possibility yesterday. We attempted, but maintained the discipline that the athlete had to be the best fit for the team and the club.”
The same occurred in January when the Gunners attempted to acquire Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, but refused to lower their valuation of the adolescent. At the time, the loss of the winger to Chelsea may have been viewed as a catastrophe.
“The club is always looking to improve the players we already have,” Arteta said after failing to acquire the Ukrainian international. “We need discipline and consistency in pursuing our objectives.”
Rivals Chelsea may be the finest example of a team that has not adhered to this discipline in recent months under their new ownership, with a variety of moves and transfer fees raising questions about the value they’ve achieved through these transfers.
This summer’s example of Rice and Saliba must have the same message: discipline.
Rice and Saliba could be replaced by Leandro Trossard for Mudryk and Gabriel Jesus for Dusan Vlasovic if the team were to lose Rice and Saliba.
