Arsenal moves forward with playmaker’s contract

Arsenal’s efforts to extend Martin Odegaard’s contract have advanced following constructive discussions with the 24-year-old playmaker and his camp.

According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, Arsenal are in advanced contract negotiations with 24-year-old playmaker Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian has distinguished himself since joining the Gunners on a permanent basis in 2021, and his current weekly salary of £120,000 is due to increase significantly.

Under the guidance of Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar, Arsenal is a different institution. Under the duo’s stewardship, the Gunners have ensured that several of their primary players will remain at the club for many years.

The club’s strategy largely entails retaining its most valuable players while enhancing its roster with each transfer window.

The additions of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Kai Havertz demonstrated this, and they have already made progress in extending the contracts of their crucial players.

In the summer of 2016, Eddie Nketiah signed a new contract, which marked the beginning of the extension binge.

Then, Gabriel Magalhaes signed a new contract, and subsequently, at least five more players signed new agreements with the club to secure their long-term future.

Martin Odegaard is at the forefront of Arsenal’s intentions to sign a handful of additional key players to new contracts.

The Arsenal captain has two years remaining on his £120,000-per-week contract, and Mikel Arteta would like to compensate the 24-year-old playmaker for his outstanding performances.

Arsenal had already begun talks with Odegaard over a new four-year deal some days ago, but the notion seemed relevant for many months.

Securing the 24-year-old playmaker will go a long way toward signaling their intent for the upcoming years and sending a clear message to those wishing he leaves.

Arsenal are optimistic about negotiating new terms with Odegaard, and discussions with his representatives have been positive thus far.

According to the report, the Gunners are in advanced contract negotiations with the 24-year-old playmaker, and Odegaard’s weekly salary will increase significantly.

Odegaard has begun the season superbly with two goals, including the equalizer against Manchester United just before halftime.

When Arsenal face Everton on Sunday, he will presumably resume his run, as they continue to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League lead.
