Arsenal are no longer atop the Premier League standings.

Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 victory over Fulham allowed Pep Guardiola’s squad to surpass their title rivals for the first time since February.

The Gunners’ recent form has been abysmal, with just three points out of a possible 12 in their last four league games, a stretch in which the Citizens defeated them 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Despite having played one fewer league match this season, the defending champions are now one point clear of the team from north London, who led the league for the majority of the campaign.

As the final whistle blew on City’s away victory against Fulham, the traveling fans took a moment to send a message to Arsenal by chanting, “We are league leaders.”

Arsenal can return to the top of the table if they defeat London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday before City hosts West Ham United in Manchester the following day.

Mikel Arteta, speaking after his team’s loss to Manchester City earlier this week, insisted that the Gunners still had an opportunity to end their 19-year title drought.

Arteta stated in his post-match press conference that the beginning of the season statistics indicated that his team would finish sixth or seventh with five games remaining.

The accomplishments of these players over the past nine and a half months against this team merit a great deal of praise.

“We must encourage our athletes tonight. We realize that we competed against an exceptional team, but we are also an exceptional team. Today, we failed to execute the fundamentals and comprehend what was required to win the game.
