Barcelona reportedly instructed Tottenham Hotspur to increase the transfer fee for Clement Lenglet if they wish to re-sign the defender to a permanent deal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Last season, Clement Lenglet was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona.

During his loan tenure at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the £145,000-per-week (Spotrac) central defender made 24 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs.

In those contests, the 28-year-old assisted on two goals.

Last season, the French defender also made six starts and one substitute appearance for Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League.

Lenglet scored a single goal in these contests.

According to this morning’s report by Sport, Barcelona and Tottenham have been negotiating Lenglet’s permanent transfer for some time.

According to the report, Lenglet and Spurs have reached an agreement on a three-year contract.

The La Liga champions were prepared to facilitate a move for the Frenchman to Spurs, but have now decided to increase the transfer fee.

According to Sport, Barcelona has demanded that Tottenham pay €15 million (£13 million) for the French central defender.

Tottenham Hotspur should pay £13 million for Clement Lenglet, the Barcelona center-back.

If Tottenham Hotspur are serious about signing Clement Lenglet from Barcelona during the summer transfer window, they should pay the required £13 million, in our opinion.

It is not an excessive transfer fee for a 28-year-old athlete who is at his peak.

We do not believe that Lenglet was exceptionally ‘great’ for Tottenham last season, but without UEFA Champions League competition next year, it will be difficult for Spurs to attract many elite central defenders.

Lenglet is an excellent central defender with Premier League and European playing experience.

If and when Tottenham returns to the UEFA Champions League, Lenglet will be a valuable asset for the North London club.
