Chelsea ‘close to completing Mauricio Pochettino deal’
According to reports, Chelsea is confident that Mauricio Pochettino will be confirmed as the club’s next head coach later this week.
Frank Lampard will attempt to halt a five-game losing streak when the Blues face London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Chelsea are currently in 12th place in the Premier League standings, and they are already planning for a season that will not include European football.
For over a week and a half, there has been widespread speculation that Pochettino, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, will be the new manager at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea began the process of finding Graham Potter’s definitive replacement by showing interest in a variety of candidates, including Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.
According to 90min, the club’s owners did not contemplate anyone other than Pochettino because the Argentine’s performance during the selection process was so impressive.
Club officials reportedly held additional talks over the weekend, with only “minor details” remaining to ratify later this week.
It remains to be seen whether Pochettino will be present when Chelsea face the Premier League title-contending Gunners, given that his presence would detract from the significance of the match.
Theoretically, when Pochettino arrives in June, he will have significant influence over which Chelsea players are permitted to depart in the summer.
As a consequence of a recently-announced £121m loss and spending over £600m on two transfer windows, Chelsea must make significant cutbacks in order to reduce playing numbers and strengthen its FFP position.
Trevoh Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been linked to Inter Milan in recent days, while Mateo Kovacic is rumored to be ready for a new challenge.
