Chelsea have already made a decision on the ‘next Eden Hazard’ as three transfer clues are given in the squad list
Mauricio Pochettino is tasked with reducing his group even further, and Chelsea have indicated that three of their players could be transferred or released this summer.
Despite the loss of ten first-team players from the previous season, there is still an abundance of talent as returning loanees fill out the training roster at Cobham. A cohort has yet to return prior to the American tour, and additional sales are anticipated to follow.
In addition to Callum Hudson-Odoi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hakim Ziyech, and Romelu Lukaku have been granted additional time to secure a transfer away from the club. Ethan Ampadu and Malang Sarr are also senior-level players who have no future at Stamford Bridge and will seek new opportunities elsewhere.
A juvenile undertone has been established with the addition of Malo Gusto, Andrey Santos, Levi Colwill, Christopher Nkunku, and Nicolas Jackson. Even though questions remain about Santos and where he will play football in the near future, they are all certified members of the first-team squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Colwill is another player who has been the subject of rumors, but for Chelsea to retain him at the club, he must become more than just a first-team player. Ian Maatsen, who trains with Pochettino’s team but is designated as a member of the development squad on the club’s website, illustrates the uncertainty in other areas of the team.
Prior to a prospective transfer this summer, he will be given the opportunity to shine in the United States. There are, however, a number of other players on the development squad list who may also aspire to break through under Pochettino.
Cesare Casadei was acquired from Inter for £15 million last summer, but spent the first half of the season in the academy before being loaned to Reading. Now, he must demonstrate his ability to maintain a position while interested clubs, including Leicester, look for an opportunity to sign him to a one-year contract.
Tino Anjorin’s placement in the senior category may be an indication of what’s to come, given that he’s currently not in the senior group online. Lewis Hall appears in both, but he is now a first-team regular after making such an impression last season.
He is also present in the midfield, which may indicate that the Blues view him as a more viable option for that position than in defense, where he played last season. Throughout his junior career, Hall has been a midfielder, but he is capable of playing both positions well.
Diego Moreira is an intriguing addition that has flown under the radar. The young attacker’s free transfer from Benfica was confirmed earlier this window, and he was immediately inserted in the senior squad. He will be given an opportunity to distinguish himself before a decision is made about where he will play next season.
Moreira has performed some in-house media duties to introduce himself to supporters and has described his game in an exciting manner. “I’m quick, enjoy dribbling, provide assists, and score goals as well. Help the team defend because I dislike losing and would win every game if I could, he said.
As part of Chelsea’s effort to recruit young stars for the foreseeable future, Moreira admitted that he looked up to Eden Hazard and Didier Drogba, a positive indication for new signings.
Now, if he can leverage any of their talent in his early days at Cobham, he will have little trouble impressing Pochettino and fulfilling the requirements of an immediate first-team player. It is now up to Maatsen, Moreira, and Casadei to establish their worthiness in the Chelsea squad, as the Blues have already set their stall out.
