Chelsea hopes Mauricio Pochettino’s aspect will lure their star into new agreement.

The decision by Chelsea to offer Mauricio Pochettino the permanent head coach position could facilitate N’Golo Kante’s proposed contract extension.
Pochettino is expected to finalize his contract with Chelsea this week, with the expectation that progress will be made.

Chelsea has hoped to sign Kante to a new contract for quite some time, having initiated talks with the France World Cup champion before firing former head coach Graham Potter.

In recent weeks, Chelsea and Kante have been negotiating the finer points of the contract, with the club remaining optimistic that an agreement will be reached.

Pochettino was reportedly interested in acquiring Kante for Paris Saint-Germain, and it became apparent that the 32-year-old midfielder would enjoy playing for him.

The move never came to fruition, and Kante remained at Stamford Bridge, but sources claim the two remain eager to work together if at all feasible.

Since acquiring Chelsea, Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital has negotiated a number of contract extensions, including with Reece James, Ben Chilwell, and Thiago Silva.

This is despite implementing a compensation policy that will reduce the salaries of some players by as much as 30 percent if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Kante’s current contract, which expires in the summer, made him the highest-paid player at Chelsea for a time, earning around £300,000 per week, but he has since been surpassed by Raheem Sterling and Romelu Lukaku.

Kante has made seven appearances for Chelsea since the beginning of April after missing seven months of this season due to injury. His high-energy style should complement Pochettino’s philosophy.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, an out-of-favor striker for Chelsea, is contemplating Gabon’s president Ali Bongo Ondimba’s request to end his international retirement.

Aubameyang returned to Gabon on Monday, where he conferred with the president and was asked to resume his national team career and assist with qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Yesterday, the former Arsenal captain returned to Chelsea training and is currently contemplating the request to end his international retirement.

Aubameyang is eager to return to Barcelona this summer, and following a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea is likely to grant him a free transfer.
