According to reputable journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea target Andre Onana is “open” to joining the Blues in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Could Chelsea acquire Onana during the summer?
The Inter Milan goalkeeper had an outstanding club season, reaching the Champions League final but ultimately falling short after a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in Istanbul last Saturday.

In recent weeks, Onana has been linked with a summer transfer to Chelsea, with Inter seemingly willing to let him depart and Mauricio Pochettino identifying him as a potential candidate to wear the number one jersey at Stamford Bridge.

In light of the fact that neither Kepa Arrizabalaga nor Edouard Mendy have distinguished themselves over the past year, it has become abundantly apparent that the Blues must acquire an elite goalkeeper prior to the start of the upcoming campaign.

The rumors of Chelsea’s interest in Onana persist, and a recent update suggests that he could be the player Pochettino most wants to sign as his No. 1 this summer.

What is the current status of Onana to Chelsea?
Kinsella asserted on Twitter that Onana favors a move to Chelsea, but Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is also being considered.

“Chelsea will discuss an Andre Onana transfer in the coming weeks. Currently, the asking price is approximately £50 million.

Player is willing to relocate, but Manchester United is also intrigued. Mamardashvili of Valencia is regarded a strong alternative.”

On paper, Onana meets all the requirements to be a first-rate addition for Chelsea; if the transaction is finalized, this could be a significant acquisition.

There is no reason he can’t develop further, as many goalkeepers do in their 30s, and the fact that Pep Guardiola recently called him “exceptional” speaks volumes about his current standing in the sport.

Onana, who earns £67,000 per week, is arguably one of the best players in the world at his position right now, alongside Alisson, Ederson, and Thibaut Courtois, and while it seems odd that Inter would be willing to sell him, Chelsea should jump at the chance to sign him, thereby resolving a problem area of the field.

As Kinsella mentions, Manchester United’s interest in the 34-time Cameroon international is a cause for concern given their Champions League participation next season.
