Chelsea players request the sacked backroom staff to be rehired.
Jose Calvarro was fired from his position as a backroom staff member at Chelsea, but players made a plea to have him reinstated.
Jose Calvarro, a former member of Chelsea’s medical team who was fired in September, has been rehired by the club just a few months after the Blues had previously let him go.
The Evening Standard reports that the Blues have re-hired him in response to a request made by the players. Calvarro, along with medical heads Thierry Laurent and Paco Biosca, was fired by the west London giants after the club was acquired by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
It was a part of a backroom clearout that was taking place, possibly to impose the identity of the American owners on the club.
Due to the fact that Calvarro worked at Chelsea from 2016 all the way up to September of last year, he has a solid understanding of how the club operates.
As early as January of this year, it was reported that players for Chelsea FC were concerned about the medical department at the club and the ongoing injury problems. This seems like a sane move.
Good move
Everyone can plainly see that we have a problem with injuries. Particularly problematic for us have been the fitness problems experienced by our defenders.
At this time, injuries have forced Marc Cucurella, Reece James, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, and Kalidou Koulibaly to miss time on the field.
After buying the club the previous year, Boehly and company fired members of the backroom staff without cause.
Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter are only two of the employees who have lost their jobs as a result of the widespread restructuring that took place.
We can only hope that Calvarro’s return to SW6 will be beneficial to us. He was a member of the club for both of our championship runs in the Premier League, which we won with Antonio Conte and in the UEFA Champions League with Tuchel.
After being let go by Chelsea, he signed on with Serie B club Como, and the players at the west London giants’ club expressed their displeasure with the decision to let him go.
When making such a decision in the first place, the players and other members of the staff ought to have been properly consulted and their perspectives should have been taken into consideration.
At least our owners are mature enough to see their error and have reinstated the Spanish employee.
