Chelsea has been instructed to recruit Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer, as Mauricio Pochettino seeks to bolster his attacking options. Recent reports have linked the 28-year-old striker with a transfer to Stamford Bridge due to his impressive performances for Fulham.

Mitrovic, whose Craven Cottage contract expires in 2026, has appeared 24 times for Marco Silva’s side in the Premier League this season, contributing directly to 16 goals. Due to his goal-scoring prowess and aggressive nature, the Serbian international has been designated by many as the ideal target for the Blues, who are seeking a new talisman.

Only Diego Costa and Olivier Giroud have come close to filling Didier Drogba’s cleats over the years for Chelsea, who have struggled to replace the Ivorian.

Several coaches have experimented with Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and Pierre-Emerick Aubamyeang, but none of them have been nearly as successful.

Frank Leboeuf explained on the Si & Dan Talk Chelsea podcast why Pochettino should sign Mitrovic, who has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former Blues defender stated, “We require a striker, and I believe Aleksandar Mitrovic from Fulham would be suitable.

“Mitrovic possesses a genuine mentality; he would transform the locker room. I believe Mitrovic has a similar personality to Zlatan Ibrahimovic; he has a winning mentality and can be that sort of person.

“I like solders. These men never ever falter, never give up, and always face the situation head-on. I adore it. He has performed exceptionally well for Fulham, and he wouldn’t have to relocate that far to join Chelsea!”

Darren Bent urged Chelsea to acquire Mitrovic during the January transfer window of the previous year. The former Aston Villa striker stated on talkSPORT: “Mitrovic has surprised me.” I expected him to score, but not at this rate.

“Managers will see him and realize he has the ability to produce goals. Considering their wing-backs, Reece James and Ben Chilwell, and how they deliver crosses, he would flourish in that system.”

While Mitrovic’s mentality is admired, his temper has occasionally gotten the better of him. After being accused with violent and improper conduct following a red card against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinal in April, the Serbian received a lengthy suspension.

He appeared to grasp the arm of referee Chris Kavanagh. Mitrovic missed Fulham’s next eight Premier League games, nearly costing his team a spot in the top ten.
