Erik ten Hag delivers Lisandro Martinez injury update at Manchester United
Erik ten Hag expects Lisandro Martinez to return to Carrington in the coming days and believes he will recover in time for the beginning of preseason.
The Manchester United defender was ruled out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a metatarsal fracture against Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal last month.
The World Cup champion has been one of United’s best performers this season, appearing 45 times after his £47 million summer transfer from Ajax. Due to his injury, he will not participate in the FA Cup final next week. He started the League Cup final victory over Newcastle in February but will not compete in the FA Cup final next week.
Ten Hag has provided a favorable update on Martinez ahead of the preseason trip to the United States this summer. The Dutchman told Viaplay, “I expect Lisandro Martinez to return to the club in the coming days.” He will be prepared for the beginning of the preseason.”
Martinez underwent successful surgery in the days following his injury, and subsequently posted on Instagram, “Thanks be to God! Many gratitude for your correspondence.
Now concentrating on recovery.”
The 25-year-old has secured a starting position in Ten Hag’s lineup, supplanting club captain Harry Maguire to join Raphael Varane as the first-choice centre-back pairing.
He contributed to United’s 20 shutouts this season and scored his first goal for the club against Arsenal in January.

United will play Leeds United in Oslo on July 12 before embarking on a four-game tour of the United States. They are scheduled to play Arsenal, Lyon, Wrexham, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund in friendlies prior to the August 12 start of the new Premier League season.
