Ex-England midfielder’s warning to Arsenal’s Premier League title contenders after opening win over Nottingham Forest

Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka scored in the first half to help the Gunners get off to a quick start after their season opener was delayed by 30 minutes due to ticketing system issues at the Emirates Stadium.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s late goal for Forest gave the visitors confidence, but Arsenal, who finished second last season, held on for a successful start to the new season.

Ex-England midfielder Hargreaves stated that Arsenal were ‘brilliant’ in the first half and swiftly demonstrated that they will be a ‘problem’ for their Premier League rivals this season.

Last season, Arsenal came close to winning their first league championship since 2004. With the additions of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber this summer, the club hopes to go one better in 2023-24.

Hargreaves stated on Premier League Productions, “It was an outstanding first-half performance.” We had to wait a bit due to the delay, but Arsenal were outstanding in the first half.

All of the new players have impressed me, but Gabriel Martinelli took the show. Arsenal appears to be a potential concern this season. The first goal was the result of Martinelli’s individual brilliance. We know Nketiah is a strong finisher, but Martinelli was solely responsible for that goal.

Mikel Arteta was delighted with his team’s start against Nottingham Forest, but he bemoaned a lapse in concentration that gave Steve Cooper’s team a late chance.

He stated, “It is always difficult to win the first game of the season.” We deserved to be in the lead, but we did not end the game. And 2-0 in the Premier League is a hazardous scoreline, as we lacked concentration and conceded a goal; therefore, the match is still in play.

It is impossible to give teams anything, but we gave them hope. The sentiment is that we desire the game to end and the three points.

Nketiah echoed his manager and stated that he was thrilled to contribute to a victory after being named to Arsenal’s substitute for the Community Shield final victory over Manchester City last weekend.

“We had a great start, but they crept back in – they made adjustments that helped.” The finish was tense, but we merited the three points,’ said the young forward.

Martinelli did a great job setting me up, and I was pleased with the goal. We know Saka possesses the same caliber of talent, and we are thrilled to have him on our squad.

“Everyone wants to play and everyone must be prepared to play, so it’s a good beginning for me and the team.” You never know when an opportunity will present itself, but I’m satisfied with my contribution.

It’s amazing to hear the fans sing my name at the conclusion of the game because I grew up as a fan of the club. This is my home.
