The Glazers are reportedly prepared to give Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag a transfer budget of £170 million this summer, despite the club still being for sale.

United’s current proprietors are currently weighing proposals from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani as the transfer window gains momentum.

United supporters feared that the Glazers would not be eager to spend money promptly before selling the club. To maintain the club’s elevated valuation and prevent the Red Devils from falling further behind their Premier League rivals, however, investment will be essential.

According to The Mirror, Ten Hag will receive the complete £170 million he requires to restructure his playing squad over the summer. Mason Mount is settling in after his £60 million transfer from Chelsea, but negotiations to acquire a goalkeeper and a striker are intensifying.

David de Gea has left Old Trafford following the expiration of his contract, creating a goalkeeper vacancy.

Andre Onana is at the top of Ten Hag’s transfer wish list, but Inter Milan are reportedly holding out for a fee in excess of £50 million. The Red Devils require new offensive firepower up front.

And while Tottenham captain Harry Kane was United supporters’ dream signing at the beginning of the summer, Spurs’ reluctance to do business with a direct rival has made the transfer nearly impossible.

United have therefore turned their attention to 20-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund. Atalanta reportedly value the teenager at approximately £60 million, and despite the fact that negotiations have been ongoing for some time, Ten Hag and company have yet to come close to that amount.

Mason Greenwood is among those rumored to be moving in the opposite direction in an attempt to enhance the deal for Atalanta with a player-plus-cash offer.

While improving United’s starting lineup with a new goalkeeper and a promising striker will require a substantial financial investment, the Glazers’ confirmation that the funds are available will be a tremendous boost to Ten Hag’s summer plans.

The Red Devils continue their preseason on Wednesday against Lyon, with less than a month until Wolves visit Old Trafford on the opening day of the upcoming season.
