Marcel Sabitzer made his debut for Borussia Dortmund with a goal and an assist. The former Manchester United loanee is off to a blistering start since leaving the Premier League.
All three of the Austrian’s goals for Manchester United came in cup competitions, with the former Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig star expertly backheeling Erik ten Hag’s side past Fulham before scoring twice in a flash against Sevilla in the Europa League.
On his debut in yellow-and-black for Borussia Dortmund, Marcel Sabitzer ensured there would be no venom in the tail as the DFB Pokal began this past weekend.
After Manchester United’s elimination, Marcel Sabitzer shone for Edin Terzic’s squad as they defeated Schott Mainz 6-1 at the MEWA Arena. Sabitzer pounced on a stray ball inside the penalty area to score Dortmund’s first goal in 57 minutes after signing for £16 million.
Later in the half, Donyell Malen’s own powerful goal was set up by a deft first-touch pass. Sabitzer, borrowing a page from Anthony Elanga’s playbook, assisted on his first appearance after leaving Manchester United.
“I acquired self-assurance and rhythm during training camp. Sabitzer told Ruhr Nachrichten after Dortmund’s dominant first-round victory, “It feels like I’ve been here for a while.”

Sabitzer, who has been capped 71 times by Austria and is a former RB Leipzig captain as well as a league champion at Bayern Munich and Red Bull Salzburg, brings potentially invaluable experience to a Dortmund side that threw away the title on the final day of the previous season.
Hans Joachim Watzke, the CEO of Borussia Dortmund, told BILD, “I am 100 percent confident that Marcel Sabitzer will help us.” Marcel is exactly the type of midfielder we need.
