“This season is about maintaining mental clarity. After winning the Champions League, even more eyeballs will be on me and my team. We must be more vigilant and prepared.”

Guardiola is awarded coach of the year.

Guardiola was voted coach of the year over Italians Luciano Spalletti, who led Napoli to their first Serie A championship in 33 years, and Simone Inzaghi, whose Inter Milan team finished second in the Champions League and won the Italian Cup.

The Spanish manager was absent from the award ceremony because he is recuperating from back surgery.

Respectful of Spain

England coach Sarina Wiegman was named Women’s Coach of the Year after guiding the Lionesses to this year’s World Cup final and victory over Brazil at Wembley Stadium in April.

Wiegman dedicated her honor to the Spain women’s team after the kiss incident involving federation president Luis Rubiales captured the attention of the media when Spain won their first Women’s World Cup.

“(Receiving this award) feels a little bit different,” Wiegman said. “Everyone is aware of the problems surrounding the Spanish team, and it hurts me as a coach, a mother of two daughters, a wife, and a human being.”Women’s football and society still have a ways to go despite the tremendous growth of the game.

“I would like to dedicate this award to the Spanish team, who played such entertaining football during the World Cup. This group warrants recognition and attention.”

Aitana Bonmati, who helped Barcelona achieve the Women’s Champions League and the Spanish league championship, has been named the women’s player of the year.

The 25-year-old led the Champions League with 13 goal contributions, including five goals and eight assists.

Bonmati stated, “I would like to thank Sarina for her words because this is not a good time for Spanish football.”

We just won the World Cup, but they are discussing other topics.
