Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has heaped praise on his former teammate and current Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola.
As reported by Football Daily, the Spanish tactician weighed in on his compatriot in a press conference.

Mikel Arteta reiterated Ilkay Gundogan’s praise for Pep Guardiola, who was labeled ‘ruthless’ by i Newspaper.
“I have always stated that he is the greatest manager in the world in my opinion. I learned so much through our collaboration. Comparing the situation with Ilkay [Gundogan] and what he said about his time when he joined Pep for me when I was 15 and I went to Barcelona, I realized that under Johan [Cruyff], everything that he was doing at the time, football became a completely different sport than what I had known before.”
Mikel Arteta elaborated on Pep Guardiola‘s influence on his vision, stating, “He’s the one who made me think and feel the game in a completely different way than I did before.”
Pep Guardiola has had a greater impact on the sport than any other manager of his generation.
Mikel Arteta would be the first to acknowledge that his philosophy is heavily influenced by the one employed by Pep Guardiola for the past five years.
However, the Arsenal manager would not be the only one to admit this, as Guardiola’s influence is felt throughout European soccer.
Even at the youth level, teams have begun to be coached based on the ideas of the Manchester City manager, which demonstrates how much he has revolutionized the sport as a whole, something none of his contemporaries can claim.
