Liverpool, Man United, Man City and Arsenal eye’s up as Real Madrid put Tchouameni for sale.
Real Madrid is willing to allow Aurelien Tchouameni to depart the club, alerting Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal to the possibility of a deal.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Los Blancos “would welcome the departure” of the 20-year-old, just 12 months after spending €100 million to acquire him from Monaco.
Even with Casemiro’s departure, Tchouameni has failed to consistently feature for the European champions, and with Jude Bellingham rumored to be a target for Real Madrid, Tchouameni’s departure could open the door.
The report also states that only Premier League clubs would be able to afford the player a year after such a significant transfer, giving four English clubs a tremendous opportunity…
Real Madrid beat Liverpool to the signing of Tchouameni last year, and the Reds’ need for a top-tier midfielder has already intensified.
Liverpool were extensively linked with Bellingham, but now that the Borussia Dortmund star is off the radar, Tchouameni is a viable alternative who possesses the type of all-around game Klopp desired in his midfield.
Even if Real only loaned Tchouameni to Liverpool for a single season, he could provide adequate coverage until the Reds find a permanent solution.
It could play out similarly to how Arsenal brought Martin Odegaard to the Premier League for the first time.
The Gunners were able to acquire a player initially deemed unsuitable for the Bernabeu, with the player himself proving Madristas incorrect in spectacular fashion.
Arsenal have a strong relationship with Real, having brought Dani Ceballos over on loan – and with Mikel Arteta looking for midfield reinforcement, Tchouameni cannot be ruled out for the north London club.
Again, however, Bellingham is crucial to the outcome of this transaction. If Real Madrid signs the English teen, Manchester City will have to scramble to find a replacement, per MARCA (opens in new tab), assuming Ilkay Gundogan will depart for Barcelona.
Similar to how the Bellingham-to-Real deal could still work out for Liverpool, the Bellingham-to-Real deal could be the first domino that propels Tchouameni into City’s grasp.
Manchester United, meanwhile, has been tangentially linked to Bellingham. Given that they already have Casemiro – curiously, the player whose departure was sanctioned because Tchouameni was coming to Madrid – their need for Tchouameni appears limited.
United held discussions with the Frenchman last year.
United have fielded Christian Eriksen alongside Casemiro as a creative midfielder and Fred as a tenacious runner and defender; this player could be both for them.
The future of the Frenchman is still uncertain. Who, if any, Premier League clubs will return for his signature if he is placed up for sale less than a year into his Madrid career remains to be seen.
Nevertheless, based on the initial interest, we may be in for a compelling transfer saga – a subplot to the Jude Bellingham drama.
