Liverpool report: Jurgen Klopp has sent Man Utd a dig after getting approval for his midfield plan.
Liverpool may have had a terrible season, but there are a few reasons to be cheerful as the campaign winds down.
The Reds have now won their last three Premier League games and are undefeated in their last five.
They defeated West Ham 2-1 on the road on Wednesday, extending their winning streak to three games.
There is no reason to rule out a top-four finish and return to the Champions League with six games remaining in the season, beginning with Sunday’s match against Tottenham at Anfield.
With the summer transfer window approaching, there is also a great deal of speculation about the future at Anfield.
Liverpool is rumored to be planning a reconstruction, with a focus on their midfield, after their failed attempt to acquire Jude Bellingham.
Klopp reminds Ten Hag of 7-0
Jurgen Klopp reminded Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag of Liverpool’s 7-0 victory at Anfield in March. With the Reds’ season derailed, Klopp made it plain that at least the record-setting rout will give him something special to remember.
Klopp told a press conference on Friday, “I always assumed I would have time for these activities after my career.”
Therefore, if we don’t do something truly extraordinary, this season will be remembered for the 7-0 loss to United.
I hope that when people reflect on it in a few years, they will say, “That was the year we defeated United 7-0,” and then add something positive.
And thereafter, we qualified for whatever. That would be preferable, but if not, we must also accept that.”
Wright endorses the midfield layout
Ian Wright, a former player for Arsenal, has granted his approval for Curtis Jones to play a larger role in Liverpool’s midfield next season. The 22-year-old has struggled for playing time this season, but appears to have the support of Jurgen Klopp.
After Jones’s performance against West Ham, Wright told the Ringer Podcast Network, “Curtis Jones is on his way! As he predicted when the Hulk was destroyed, Thanos is on his way. Curtis Jones will arrive.”
The views of Klopp on European qualification
Jurgen Klopp has stated that Liverpool will ‘accept what they get’ in terms of qualifying for Europe this season.
The Reds are presently seventh and on track to qualify for the Europa Conference League for the first time in the club’s history.
“We didn’t start the season thinking it was going to be great, but the season taught us a few things,” Klopp said before Sunday’s match against Tottenham. “We want to establish a foundation to qualify for the best-case scenario, squeezing out every possibility.”
