Who will be Jurgen Klopp‘s third summer signing? Who will be the next star to transfer to Merseyside?

Alexis Mac Allister was the first player to join Jurgen Klopp’s squad during the current transfer window, with Liverpool paying £35 million for Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. Dominik Szoboszlai shortly followed after the Reds activated the Hungary captain’s £60 million release clause at RB Leipzig.

Klopp is attempting to restore his team after finishing fifth in the Premier League last year. This summer, the Liverpool manager has already bid farewell to several fan favorites, including Roberto Firmino and James Milner.

Here are the most recent Merseyside transfer headlines…

Mbappe grants approval

CaughtOffside reports that Liverpool are interested in acquiring Rennes winger Jeremy Doku. The 21-year-old Belgian international scored seven goals and dished out four assists for Rennes last season, and he still has two years remaining on his contract.

It is rumored that Liverpool are prioritizing fortifying other areas of their squad, but if the price is right, they could pursue Doku. It is believed that Napoli, AC Milan, and Aston Villa are also contemplating bids for the player, who prefers a move to the Premier League.

Doku is admired by many, including Kylian Mbappe. The World Cup champion told France Football in 2021, “Recently, I was speaking with my father about a Rennes player named Doku who impressed me from the stands due to his speed.”

Doku is reportedly valued at €40 million (£34.4 million) by Rennes. According to Get French Football News, Mbappe stated, “In my five years as a professional, I have never witnessed someone from a standing start exhibit such strength.”

Fabinho remains a Liverpool player for the time being. According to the Liverpool ECHO, the Reds and Al-Ittihad are still negotiating a £40 million transfer. The 29-year-old Brazilian international was omitted from Liverpool’s preseason training exercise in Germany.

The future of club captain Jordan Henderson is uncertain, as he is also desired by Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq. In contrast to Fabinho, Liverpool’s 33-year-old midfielder is currently in Germany with the rest of the team.

Amrabat’s asking price

Klopp is expected to sign another central midfielder if Fabinho or Henderson depart Liverpool this summer. Sofyan Amrabat, the Fiorentina hero who helped Morocco reach the World Cup semifinals in Qatar last year, is rumored to be a target.

The Daily Mail reports that Fiorentina want £25 million for Amrabat. The 26-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract, and several clubs, including Manchester United, are interested in signing him. This could be problematic for Liverpool for two reasons.

United can offer Amrabat something that Liverpool cannot: Champions League football, and Amrabat has previously worked with Erik ten Hag. Amrabat’s breakthrough season as a professional occurred during Ten Hag’s tenure in command of Utrecht.
