Man City manager Pep Guardiola endangers to drop some stars after conversation with City club director
As Manchester City strives to win an unprecedented triple, head coach Pep Guardiola has stated that he is not scared to bench key players for strategic, physical, or mental reasons.
The Catalan manager is in possession of an all-star team, which forces him to make difficult choices among the high-caliber players at his disposal.
This afternoon, City will end their home season by playing Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium, and they will be looking to cap it off with a bang.
The next matches will take place at Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford in the Premier League, at Wembley Stadium in the final of the FA Cup, and at Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium in the final of the Champions League. The triple is within striking distance at this point.
Man management is a crucial component in accomplishing such a feat, and it is an even harder task for a coach to have such a plethora of talent as Guardiola possesses.
The only manager to ever lead an English club to the treble, Sir Alex Ferguson was a true expert in his field. He led Manchester United to three consecutive titles.
However, Guardiola has made it very apparent that his players respect his team selections, and nobody on the squad has the impression that they have a right to start each and every game during the season.
In addition to that, he stated that healthy rivalry among his own ranks is necessary in order to keep the Citizens’ untouchable performance levels.
As Guardiola explained it, “At the beginning of the season, I went to my sport director and I said, ‘Did you sign some players, or do any of the players have a clause that they have to play 100 per cent in all of the games?'”
