Man United star discloses how he disturbed Cristiano Ronaldo under Ten Hag

Christian Eriksen revealed that he annoyed Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United by attempting to steal free kicks from him.

Ronaldo’s extraordinary goal record has helped the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker rise to the top when it comes to situations involving dead balls. He rarely misses from the penalty spot, but his recent free kick record pales in comparison to mid- to late-2000s levels.

The 38-year-old’s knuckle ball technique enabled him to score some memorable long-range free kicks, but he managed only one in three years at Juventus and one more at Manchester United.

United’s current roster features a number of dead-ball specialists, including Christian Eriksen, who rose to prominence at Ajax before producing precise efforts at Tottenham.

The Dane has revealed how United approach free kicks without Ronaldo and commented on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s reaction to being stripped of the ball.

During a free-kick masterclass for Premier League productions, he told Owen Hargreaves, “Even now at the club we have multiple takers who, if he’s had a good day, he’s going to have it.”

“I believe I did take one [instead of Ronaldo], but he was not pleased! But with the three we have now, it depends on where we are on the field and how people are feeling; thus, “you had the last one, I’ll have the next one.”

Ronaldo brought his free kick skills to Real Madrid, where he routinely scored from 2009 to 2017. His most recent Premier League free-kick goal was scored against Norwich in April 2022, but he also scored for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Christian Eriksen’s record when paired with Cristiano Ronaldo is 3-0.

Eriksen and Ronaldo played 15 matches together earlier in the 2022/23 season, when much of the focus at Manchester United was on the Portugal international’s discontent with his lack of playing time.

They were unable to score a goal together, but they did win 11 of their 15 matches, losing to Brighton, Brentford, Real Sociedad, and Aston Villa.

Eriksen was responsible for one of the Bees’ goals in Erik ten Hag’s team’s 4-0 thrashing of Brentford, with whom he had a difficult afternoon playing alongside Fred.

The writing was on the wall for Ronaldo early in Ten Hag’s tenure, but he chose to go out with a flourish, telling Piers Morgan that he had no respect for the Dutch manager and that he felt “betrayed” by certain figures at Old Trafford.
