Man United star explains what he told Solly March before FA penalty shootout
Wout Weghorst has revealed what he told Brighton’s Solly March before the latter’s crucial penalty kick in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final.
United defeated Brighton in a penalty shootout at Wembley to set up a final against archrivals Manchester City, who still have a chance to win an unprecedented treble.
Luke Shaw was forced to play center-back due to injuries to Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire, while Harry Maguire was suspended.
Both teams had numerous opportunities to score, but the game ended scoreless after extra time, with United winning 7-6 on penalties.
Weghorst was one of the penalty takers who converted, but it is his reaction afterward that has everyone talking.
After scoring, the Dutch striker caressed the ball and spoke with Brighton’s next shooter, March, who then missed the goal with his attempt.
What was he saying?

Referring to their conversation, Weghorst stated, “I told a few of our players to do it before we began, but nobody did it. I scored, saw the ball, and attempted to gain a few advantages to assist us possibly win the game.
“I walked up to him and said a few words, but ultimately, I went to him out of pity because he was the one who missed. I just attempted everything, which normally has no effect, but perhaps it did.”
The United loanee demonstrated his fervent support for the club he only joined in January by running over and knee-sliding in front of the supporters.
Erik ten Hag will be eager to sign a permanent striker this summer, but Weghorst is unlikely to remain a regular option.
Since his arrival, he has been heavily utilized, but in 11 Premier League appearances he has failed to score.
It is difficult to rationalize signing him permanently from Burnley for the upcoming season due to his lack of offensive ability.
United won the Carabao Cup in February. However, the 30-year-old could still leave with an additional trophy.
