David Beckham has advised the Glazer family to sell Manchester United, stating that “change is necessary” at Old Trafford. Soon, the United takeover procedure will enter its ninth month, leaving frustrated fans, bidders, and Erik ten Hag.

The Glazers have not yet found a solution after announcing in November that they were pursuing investment through a potential sale and receiving multiple bids.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, a financier from Qatar, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a British billionaire, are vying for control at Old Trafford.

Sheikh Jassim desires a complete sale and has committed to clear United’s debt through his newly-formed Nine Two Foundation.

In the meantime, Ratcliffe is seeking a majority stake, which would allow Joel and Avram Glazer to retain approximately 20% of the club.

However, fans and presumably the parties have been kept in the shadows regarding the Glazers’ thinking, and Beckham believes that a change is necessary.

“I concur [that the Glazers should sell]. I believe it is solely due to public demand. Beckham told The Athletic, “Once you lose the fans, especially at a club like Manchester United, it is difficult to win them back.”

Obviously, they [the Glazers] have accomplished a great deal, and the fact that we are discussing the sale price of Manchester United demonstrates their financial success. However, there is a need for reform. We’ve all witnessed this. We are all aware.”

Beckham added that he desires five things from potential new proprietors should the Glazers choose to end their 18-year reign.

He stated, “Off the field, as a fan and former player, all I want is for it to be resolved. There must be a determination [concerning ownership].

“You want whoever is running your club to be passionate, involved, decisive, bring in the proper players, and invest in the club.

“Because the club does need investment, whether it’s the training facility, stadium, or on the field… these kinds of large investments and changes are necessary, especially when you consider what Manchester City is doing.”
