Manchester City planning to raid Chelsea again for £40m star as Josko Gvardiol option
Levi Colwill, a defender for Chelsea, is one of the most promising rising center backs. The Englishman just won the U21 European Championship with England, and his stock has skyrocketed since last season. Colwill is currently garnering interest from multiple Premier League powerhouses.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion, where he was an integral part of the defense under Roberto De Zerbi. Colwill was regarded as one of the youth academy’s most promising candidates. Colwill was leased to Huddersfield by CFC in 2021, and he was instrumental in Huddersfield’s third-place finish in the second division.
Colwill’s development would have been hampered by the arrivals of Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana last season, so the Blues decided to loan him out again, where he could play routinely and develop into an excellent young central defender. At Brighton, he flourished under De Zerbi’s possession-based yet free-flowing system.
Manchester City views Levi Colwill, a defender for Chelsea, as a Gvardiol replacement.
So much so that the Seagulls submitted a £30 million offer to the Blues earlier this summer, which was rejected. According to reports, Mauricio Pochettino is a huge fan of Colwill and desires to retain the 20-year-old at Stamford Bridge.
The departures of Koulibaly and Trevoh Chalobah create openings for Colwill in the first team. Although he may not be the first choice, the England U21 international will have ample opportunities to play at Stamford Bridge.
The Evening Standard reports that Chelsea have rejected Brighton’s maximum offer of £40 million for Colwill. The South coast club is no longer pursuing Colwill and is searching for less expensive alternatives to bolster their defense. On the other hand, Manchester City appears to be interested in acquiring Colwill.
Manchester City have won four Premier League titles in the last five years and have no intention of abandoning their pursuit of multiple trophies as they continue to bolster their roster with exceptional talent. Josko Gvardiol of RB Leipzig remains a top priority for the Premier League champions, but if an agreement cannot be reached, Man City will pursue Chelsea’s Colwill.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also rumored to be interested in Colwill, but Chelsea has made it plain that he is not for sale. Pochettino hopes to rely on the Englishman as he attempts to utilize homegrown players.
