Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has stated that the club will put up a battle to keep England defender Kyle Walker when the club wins the Premier League title this summer.
After losing his berth in Guardiola’s starting XI toward the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, Walker expressed his disappointment and admitted it stung.
The right back, who is 33 years old, sat on the bench for Bayern Munich’s victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League final, and Bayern Munich is interested in signing him.
“We will fight for him, like I’m pretty sure Bayern [will],” Guardiola added. “We will fight for him.”
“I can’t for the life of me figure out how it’s going to end.”
Bayern, the defending champions of the Bundesliga, will be City’s opponent in a preseason friendly that will take place at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Guardiola has insisted that Walker will play for the Premier League champions, who won a historic treble in the previous campaign. Walker will contribute to the team because Guardiola views him as an essential member of the group.
“He is a player that plays a very significant role for us. “He possesses very specific qualities that are incredibly hard to find anywhere in the world,” Guardiola continued.
“His individual characteristics cannot be replicated. Although we would like for him to be here, I’m not sure what the final outcome will be.
“We need our best players out there against Bayern, and we hope that he is going to stay with us next season, so why should he not play?” “We need our best players out there against Bayern.”
In July of 2017, City paid Tottenham, their Premier League rivals, £45 million plus an additional £5 million in prospective add-ons to acquire Walker.
The England international has played a total of 254 times for the Citizens, during which time the club has won five Premier League championships, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups, and the Champions League.
