Mount was extensively linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but after the Reds failed to qualify for the Champions League next season, the midfielder became a target for Manchester United.

Reports linking the 24-year-old with a move to Old Trafford are intensifying with each passing day, and it appears increasingly probable that he will be United’s first summer signing.

United’s priority this summer is to sign a striker, but Erik ten Hag is still interested in adding bodies in midfield, particularly given the uncertain futures of some midfielders.

Ten Hag is also acquainted with Mount, having attempted an audacious transfer for the Portsmouth-born midfielder in 2018.

Declan Rice, an England international who plays for West Ham, has also been linked to Manchester United. However, if Mount joins the club, it is unlikely that United will be able to sign both Rice and Mount.

According to the Daily Mail, despite the interest in both players, United’s budget constraints make a deal problematic.

The same publication previously reported that official negotiations between United and Chelsea are now ongoing for Mount, with Old Trafford officials believing the player is eager to make the switch.

Rice is also rumored to be seeking to leave his club this summer, with a move to a Premier League club being his top priority despite reports of interest from abroad.

Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League despite spending the majority of the season atop the standings, are reportedly the favorites to secure Rice.
