Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Arsenal’s pursuits of Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber.

As preseason progresses, the Gunners are poised to sign both players but are patiently waiting for the contracts to be finalized.

On Thursday, Arteta’s squad played their first preseason match of the summer, a 1-1 stalemate with Nurnberg in Germany. Bukayo Saka opened the scoring before Jorginho scored an own goal to even the score.

The game marked the debut of new signing Kai Havertz, but the club is in a race to finalize the Rice and Timber agreements before they travel to the United States.

Arteta, however, verified after the game that the deal had not yet been finalized and there was no news to report.

“We are currently working with this group of players,” he stated in Germany following the final whistle.

We have nothing to announce at this time, but you will be the first to know when we do.

West Ham has grown impatient with Arsenal over the slow progress of the Declan Rice transfer, but paperwork is anticipated to be finalized on Friday ahead of the £105 million transfer of the England midfielder.

Both players will presumably be announced next week and sign in time for Arsenal’s preseason tour of the United States.

Arteta also provided injury bulletins for captain Martin Odegaard and forward Leandro Trossard, both of whom sustained injuries on game day.

Odegaard was originally slated to start but withdrew due to a warm-up injury, while Trossard played approximately 50 minutes before staggering off.

After the contest, he noted, “[Odegaard] and Leo are struggling.” ‘Additionally, we have other players with nagging injuries, so we must proceed with caution.

Since it is preseason and some of the players have only had two or three training sessions, we will proceed cautiously.

He added that Odegaard was ‘not feeling good enough to participate’ and that Trossard’s injury was ‘hopefully not’ serious.
