Moises Caicedo endured a nightmarish debut in a Chelsea uniform, conceding a penalty in stoppage time as their London rivals were defeated 3-1 by West Ham.

The Ecuadorian infamously spurned the opportunity to join Liverpool last week in order to complete a British-record £115 million transfer to Chelsea on Monday, stating that he ‘didn’t have to think twice’.

It was the first transaction of the week in which Liverpool finished second to their Premier League rivals. Later in the week, Romeo Lavia completed his own £58 million transfer.

However, neither were included in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup for Sunday’s cross-city match against the Hammers. Pochettino cited their lack of time with the squad and the mental toll their transfer sagas had taken on both as the primary reasons.
Caicedo was given his Chelsea debut in the 61st minute with his new team trailing 2-1. Lavia did not play at all, whereas Lavia started on the substitutes.

In the end, he had the impact that no player desires, conceding a penalty kick in injury time for clumsily lunging into Emerson Palmieri, which was converted by Lucas Paqueta.

On commentary duty for Sky Sports, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher remarked, “Moises Caicedo has endured a nightmare since entering the game.” It is a pitiful and lame challenge!”

And he was not the only one with a voice. Reds fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the player their club missed out on when his £110 million deal fell through last week. Here are a sample of their responses.
Everything LFC: “Endo would never.”

@Kloppholic: “Pump-faked Chelsea into spending £115m on Caicedo.”

@Tactical_Times: “The scrutiny placed on Moises Caicedo’s performance is absurd and will only intensify. Another consequence of such a large transaction.”

@AnfieldRd96: “Fernandez: Penalty missed. A penalty was conceded by Caicedo. Lavia: Currently at home. I adore this sport.”

@Joel_archie: “This Caicedo disasterclass is going down a treat.”

@LFCTransferRoom: “Wataru Endo’s debut resulted in a 3-1 victory. £115m Moises Caicedo on his debut: penalty conceded, team loses 3-1.”

@JoshLFC1909: “You should spend another £500 million to fix all these issues.” The account @todd_boehly.
