Pep rocked as Man City forward accepts to mouth-watering Liverpool connection

A regular starter in Pep Guardiola‘s forward line has verbally agreed to leave Man City, and if a rumored £30 million offer is accepted, a mouth-watering partnership with a Liverpool legend would be on the horizon.

In recent seasons, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus have all departed from Guardiola’s starting lineup.

Jack Grealish, Julian Alvarez, and Erling Haaland have supplied the void, and City’s treble-winning season last year suggests that Guardiola refreshed his roster at the right time.

Nonetheless, Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has been a mainstay at the Etihad for the majority of Guardiola’s tenure.

In fact, the 32-year-old has scored 78 goals and provided 59 assists in 239 appearances since joining the club in 2018 from Leicester.

The right winger recorded double-digit goals and assists last season, indicating that he still has plenty of gas in the tank despite his advanced age.

While Bernardo Silva typically starts on the right wing in the most important games, Mahrez has far more appearances in the position.

However, despite having two years remaining on his contract, the Athletic recently reported that Mahrez could be moving.

Indeed, Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli are determined to acquire the lethal winger and have reportedly tabled a £25 million per season (approximately £480,000 per week) contract offer.

If Mahrez were to join Al Alhi, he would be in position to form an exciting offensive partnership with Roberto Firmino, a Liverpool legend.

Firmino joined Al Ahli as a free agent earlier this summer, and former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has since joined the club.

Given their importance to England’s two most successful clubs over the past five years, the possibility of Mahrez and Firmino playing together would be tantalizing.

Mahrez accepts Al Ahli; Monday will be monumental for Man City

Now, reporters Fabrizio Romano and Ben Jacobs have updated us on Mahrez’s situation. First, Jacobs asserted that Mahrez accepted Al Ahli after verbally consenting to personal terms.

Jacobs emphasized that there is still much work to be done on the club-to-club front, as City has not yet received an official offer for the winger.

Romano provided his opinion on his YouTube channel. “Al Ahli is eager to sign Mahrez.” The agreement is nearly finalized with the athlete, but not with Man City.

“City still does not have an official proposal, so on Monday they will return to work and begin conversations with Mahrez to determine the status of his discussions with Al Ahli.

“They will then negotiate with Al Ahli if the player grants his final approval. The deal is not yet finalized, but Al Ahli is pressing for Mahrez.”

On the subject of cost, Romano emphasized that Man City “will not let Mahrez go for free.”

Consequently, negotiations over the transfer fee will determine whether Mahrez leaves Manchester City this summer.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Al Ahli were willing to pay around £30 million for the Algerian.

That is a significant amount for a 32-year-old player, and Man City will need to give it careful consideration if an official bid of that magnitude is submitted.
