Pique speaks favorably of the new Barcelona signing

The faithful of FC Barcelona are definitely filled with optimism following the club’s recent significant success with free agents, and the signing of Inigo Martinez has contributed to this euphoria.

The Spanish defender was acquired by the team in a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao, and it appears like he will be a valuable addition as the club works to improve its center-back play.

An important character in the club’s illustrious history was also a source of appreciation for Martinez. Gerard Pique, a player who helped usher in a new era at Barcelona and who has established himself as perhaps one of the best central defenders in the club’s history, recently gave an interview in which he gushed about the Catalans’ newest acquisition.

Pique expressed his admiration for Martinez in an interview with EFE, which was then carried by Mundo Deportivo. Pique said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo,

“I coincided with him in the Spanish national team on some occasions, and he is a great player who has been in La Liga for years.” He has a tremendous deal of experience and has previously played for Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao, two of the most prestigious clubs in Spain.

Pique underlined in particular his ability to play the ball, a skill that is essential for any Blaugrana center-back to possess. The player who won the World Cup had this to say about another: “He handles the ball very well, he has a great foot, and he has a lot of character.”

Even though Barcelona finished the previous season with the greatest defensive record in La Liga, the signing of Martinez has allowed them to display an even greater level of strength in their defense.

“Now that he’s there, the competition at center back is going to be even fiercer than it already was since Ronald Araujo is already there, Christensen is already there, and Jules Kounde is also capable of playing there.

The club has already demonstrated that they are capable of competing at a high level defensively during the previous season, and Pique expressed his hope that this trend will continue.

After saying goodbye to Gerard Pique at the end of the previous campaign, the Catalan giants have set their sights on constructing a powerful defensive unit. The fact that Inigo Martinez has received praise from one of the club’s all-time greats is unquestionably a credit to his talent.
