Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy predicts that James Maddison will lead the Premier League in assists this season.

James Maddison moved from Leicester City to Tottenham earlier this summer and has already assisted on two goals in the new season.

On Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel FIVE, Murphy was asked to determine who will record the most Premier League assists this season after being informed that Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out for the next few months.

The former England international stated, “I’ll stick with Maddison because he takes all set plays and Tottenham will win games and score goals.”

Last year, De Bruyne produced 16 assists in the English Premier League, garnering him the award for Playmaker of the Season for the third time.

James Maddison is eligible for the Playmaker of the Year award.
Due to De Bruyne’s absence due to injury, Maddison has an excellent opportunity to claim the honor.
The attacking midfielder recorded nine assists for a relegated Leicester side during the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Now that he is on a stronger team, it is not inconceivable that he will surpass that total. And, as mentioned by Murphy, he is focusing on set-pieces for Tottenham, which will aid him in his pursuit of the Playmaker of the Season award.

Maddison’s primary objective this season will be to assist Spurs return to the top four and the Champions League.

The mission will be difficult for Ange Postecoglou’s squad, as there are a number of high-quality teams at the top of the Premier League at present.

After his performance in Tottenham’s 2-2 stalemate against Brentford, Maddison is already proving to be an intelligent addition to the team.
