Sancho to start, Mount substituted: possible Man United squad vs Nottingham Forest

After getting off to a rocky start to the season with a victory on opening day over Wolves and then suffering a devastating loss at Tottenham Hotspur by a score of 2-0, Manchester United is looking to get back on track and get their season back on track.

United’s victory over Wolves was far from convincing, and the team’s poor play persisted into the next week; as a result, Erik ten Hag is under increasing amounts of pressure to get his squad back on track.

There will be a handful of changes from the team that played against Spurs, with the midfielder Mason Mount definitely being left off the roster due to a hamstring injury that has prevented him from participating in the match.

Diogo Dalot is expected to replace Luke Shaw as the lone alteration in the backline, and Christian Eriksen is expected to replace Mount alongside Casemiro as the likely replacement for Mount.

Up higher on the field, Bruno Fernandes will continue to play a pivotal role in the team’s midfield, but Ten Hag may decide to make some substitutions in the attacking third of the field.

After a strong showing off the bench in the first two games, Jadon Sancho may get the nod to start. It was speculated that the former Dortmund winger would start for Spurs, but to everyone’s surprise, he was placed on the substitutes’ bench instead.

Due to Marcus Rashford’s struggles with his form while playing the lone striker role, Anthony Martial may also be brought back into the lineup.

It would therefore be possible for Rashford to switch to the left side, with Sancho moving to the right and Martial playing up front.

As Raphael Varane is the only player on the team to have scored a goal so far this season, Ten Hag will be doing everything he can to encourage the rest of his attackers to go on the scoresheet.

Onana, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Eriksen; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford, and Martial are the players who are projected to start for Manchester United in their 4-2-3-1 formation.
