‘They believe I am an asset’ – Manchester United star raises lid on talks with Man United over his future.

Wout Weghorst remains optimistic that he will remain at Manchester United beyond this season, despite the fact that it is believed the club does not intend to retain him permanently.

Weghorst has scored only two goals since joining United on loan from Burnley in January, and his start in attacking midfield against West Ham was his first since United’s April 2 loss to Newcastle.

United has neither the option nor the obligation to sign Weghorst, and a permanent offer is not anticipated.

Weghorst was queried about his future after United’s loss to West Ham on Sunday at the London Stadium, but he insisted that he had not yet been informed of a concrete decision.

“In those [discussions], the club expressed extreme satisfaction with me. Weghorst told The Times that he has never been informed that Man United does not wish to continue working with him.

“They recognize my value. They believe that I am an invaluable asset to the team. Obviously, I’ve heard various stories [in the media]. I must observe the situation and concentrate on our league and cup competition objectives.”

Weghorst has started only one of the last seven league games since Anthony Martial’s return to fitness, and he stated that he would need assurances from Erik ten Hag about his performance before signing a permanent contract with Manchester United.

“I am a man who enjoys playing football,” he said. “When your physical appearance is diminished, as has been the case recently, you realize what you’re missing. If the club wishes to retain me, I must know what role they envision for me.”

United have prioritized the summer acquisition of a center forward, and Harry Kane has been identified as the top target.

Also of significance are Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani, Rasmus Hojlund, Goncalo Ramos, and Mohammed Kudus.
