Thierry Henry stumped over what he was hearing about player Arsenal sold for £21m last year

Last season, Thierry Henry was perplexed by what he was hearing about erstwhile Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.

In the most recent episode of Seaman Says, the Arsenal legend discussed Xhaka’s recent turnaround in form for the Gunners.

This summer, Mikel Arteta has reshaped his midfield by adding Kai Havertz and Declan Rice.

Granit Xhaka, one of his main players, completed a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen for approximately £21.5 million last month.

Havertz has been tasked with filling the void left by the departed Swiss midfielder, and he will be expecting to add goals to his game.

Last season, Xhaka scored nine goals and provided seven assists for Arsenal across all competitions.

The 30-year-old thrived while playing in a more advanced role under Arteta, and Thierry Henry confessed he was perplexed by the midfielder’s reputation last season.

Henry regarding Xhaka

Henry stated on Seaman Says that Xhaka’s turnaround in form shouldn’t have come as a surprise given that he played higher up the pitch last season.

“People made me laugh last year when they began to resemble Granit Xhaka,” he explained. “Well, he is obviously not in front of the defense building, so fewer errors.”

“He doesn’t lose the ball often, so he must be taller. Oh, he scores additional goals. Indeed, he is obviously taller.”

Xhaka’s turnaround in form last season was undoubtedly unexpected, given that he had endured a difficult few seasons at the Emirates Stadium previously.

However, Henry makes an excellent point that the former Arsenal player never appeared well-suited for a deeper midfield position.

The decision by Arteta to move him further forward was a brilliant one, and now the Gunners will be hopeful that Havertz can do a similar or even better job.
