Tottenham to move for Brentford star if Harry Kane exits?
Ahead of the expiration of his contract in 2024, Kane’s future is once again the subject of much speculation following a record-setting season for club and country.
Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich have all been linked to the 29-year-old, but it is believed that only Bayern Munich remains in the running to recruit him.
Bayern reportedly made two unsuccessful offers for Kane, who Spurs chairman Daniel Levy maintains is not for sale this summer despite his uncertain contract status.
If Kane makes it plain that he will not commit his future to the Lilywhites, Levy could still ask for a nine-figure sum to let him leave this time around; otherwise, Kane will be able to leave for free in less than a year.
Uli Hoeness, a member of Bayern’s board of directors, has publicly indicated optimism regarding a deal for the England captain, who is believed to be open to joining the German champions after positive discussions with Thomas Tuchel.
Bayern’s response to Levy’s £100m demands remains to be seen, but Spurs are believed to be scouting potential replacements for Kane, who captained his team in their recent 3-2 defeat to West Ham United in a friendly.
Jonathan David of Lille and Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus have been mentioned as potential understudies, but according to FootballTransfers, Toney is also a target.
The 27-year-old adapted swiftly to life in the Premier League after Brentford’s promotion in 2021, scoring 12 goals in his debut season and 20 in the 2022-23 campaign.
Toney’s successful season was, however, overshadowed by numerous violations of FA betting regulations, for which the FA suspended him for eight months, keeping him out of action until January.
However, according to the report, Spurs are prepared to wait until Toney’s suspension is lifted before making a winter move for the England international striker, who has been on their radar for some time.
Former head coach David Pleat reportedly recommended Toney to Levy as the ideal reserve and eventual successor to Kane, but the Lilywhites were warned against signing Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica before acquiring Toney.

Despite the fact that Toney cannot participate in any football-related activity for the next six months, Levy reportedly has not ruled out a summer transfer if Kane leaves in the coming weeks.
Toney made his debut with League One’s Peterborough United before earning a £4.9m transfer to Brentford in 2020. Since then, he has accumulated 68 goals and 21 assists in 124 appearances for Thomas Frank’s squad.
The England international still has two years remaining on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, and earlier this year, Brentford manager Frank stated that Toney is a “£100 million plus” player.
