What Caicedo texted Jurgen Klopp just before signing for Chelsea

Moises Caicedo texted Jurgen Klopp to inform him that he had no plans to join Liverpool.

On August 11, Liverpool had a bid accepted for Caicedo. Initially, it appeared as though Liverpool had outbid Chelsea for the Ecuadorian’s services.

But it became immediately apparent that Caicedo had only one club in mind. According to The Athletic, the 21-year-old informed Klopp via text message the following morning.

According to reports, Jurgen texted Caicedo early in the morning. The Liverpool manager is rumored to have launched a ‘charm offensive’ by sending a number of messages expressing how much he would adore him at Anfield.

However, the then-Brighton player was reportedly unmoved. Caicedo reportedly responded that while he appreciated Liverpool’s interest, he did not wish to join them and instead desired a transfer to Stamford Bridge.

This is a perfectly acceptable choice for a juvenile player, or any player for that matter. We frequently exult when players like Cody Gakpo or Darwin Nunez choose Liverpool over the likes of Manchester United and others.

However, when the shoe is on the other foot, it is not so comfortable.

Nonetheless, you must query the player a bit in this instance. Few players have declined the chance to collaborate with Klopp. Once he picks up the phone, the transaction is typically sealed.

Why would Caicedo be any different? According to at least Chelsea, the Athletic claim that it was not about money. According to reports, the Ecuadorian international would have potentially earned more at Anfield. But what other reasons are there currently?

Caicedo would have been an undisputed starter at Liverpool, spearheading a massive midfield reconstruction alongside his old friend Alexis Mac Allister.

He would also have access to European football and a better, more immediate opportunity to achieve titles than in West London.

Chelsea, on the other hand, is currently in shambles. Mauricio Pochettino may be steering the ship with a steady hand, but the strategy and plan appear to be a complete disaster. In any case, it’s not something that will keep us up at night, but it’s aggravating nonetheless.
