Robbie Savage, a commentator for BT Sport, believes Casemiro is deserving of the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.
This week, voting for the prize, which is determined solely by the supporters, began.
The victor will be announced at the club’s awards evening on Monday, May 29 at Old Trafford.
We caught up with ‘Sav’, a former Red, in Seville last month, and despite considering several candidates for the honor, he believes Casemiro is indispensable.
“You’re looking at the performances to determine who has had the most impact on the team,” he said.
In recent weeks, Antony has improved greatly. He has now acclimated to the Premier League and is performing well.
“Casemiro, [Marcus] Rashford, and [Lisandro] Martinez, along with [David] De Gea, have the most Premier League clean sheets.
“Scoring goals is extremely difficult, and Rashford has been utterly phenomenal. He has regained his confidence and appears to be the player everyone anticipated.”
The former Leicester City, Birmingham City, and Derby County player has selected three names he believes will lead the surveys, with Casemiro being the one United misses the most.
The Brazilian was suspended for seven Premier League games earlier this season, during which United lost two and drew one to keep our post-Christmas title hopes in check.
“[It’s] between Martinez, Casemiro, and Rashford, those three,” he added.
Who would Manchester United mourn the most for the longest period of time in the team? Who has the greatest impact on the team? Is it Casemiro, Rashford, or Martinez?
“I would probably say Casemiro because when he hasn’t played or has performed poorly, the results are evident. I would recommend Casemiro.”
As a former central midfielder, Savage is an ideal person to ask why Casemiro has been so effective for the crimson team.
We all knew how effective the 31-year-old was as a defensive presence in the midst of the field from his time at Real Madrid, but he has demonstrated during his first season in England that he has much more to offer.
“As a midfielder, I didn’t realize he had so much to his game until I heard legends such as Scholesy [Paul Scholes] and Owen [Hargreaves] talk about him: the passes around the corner, the goals.”When you have [Luka] Modric and Toni Kroos on your team, you might assume he just receives it and gives it, but I believe he has demonstrated much more.
“I believe he was recently named the Brazilian captain as well, so it’s excellent that Manchester United has the Brazilian captain on their roster.

“Therefore, I believe he has been outstanding and has provided much more than people anticipated. Even Casemiro, the captain of Brazil, has disproved his doubters in the Premier League, according to former managers and players.
