Manchester United will reportedly have to sell club captain Harry Maguire in order to sign Monaco center-back Axel Disasi during the summer transfer window.

Maguire’s future is still the subject of much speculation, with the 30-year-old widely expected to depart Old Trafford in the current transfer window after falling down the club’s pecking order.

The center-back received a pay raise this summer, making it more difficult for Manchester United to sell him despite a great deal of interest.

West Ham United and Newcastle United are among the Premier League clubs linked to Maguire, who made only eight appearances in England’s top division in 2022-23.

Man United head coach Erik ten Hag is rumored to be interested in signing a new central defender this summer, with Monaco’s Disasi widely linked to a move to Old Trafford.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 20-time English champions are interested in the Frenchman, but they must sell Harry Maguire in order for the transfer to be feasible.

According to Plettenberg, Newcastle are currently pursuing Disasi, and the Magpies have recently held discussions regarding a potential transfer for the 25-year-old.

Eddie Howe’s side is reportedly in the lead due to Manchester United’s situation, but the Red Devils are still in pursuit of his signature at this early juncture of the summer transfer window.

Disasi began his professional career with Paris FC before transferring to Reims, where he played for four years prior to joining Monaco in the summer of 2020.

The Frenchman has appeared 129 times for his current club in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists.

During the 2022-23 season, Disasi was in outstanding form for Monaco, making 49 appearances and contributing six goals and four assists.

With two years remaining on the defender’s current contract, the principality club is in a favorable position regarding the future of the defender.

Next season, both Newcastle and Manchester United will be able to offer Champions League football, but it is believed that Disasi prefers a transfer to Old Trafford over St. James’ Park.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United acquired Mason Mount from Chelsea, and they are reportedly closing in on a deal for Andre Onana of Inter Milan.
