Rasmus Hojlund, the striker for Manchester United, didn’t face excessive strain during his time representing Denmark on the international stage.

The beginning of 2024 seemed promising for Rasmus Hojlund but has taken a frustrating turn. Despite initially achieving goalscoring feats, he encountered an injury sidelining him for three weeks.

Participating in only one game before the international hiatus, he displayed a lack of sharpness, subsequently joining the Denmark squad.

Given these circumstances, Manchester United supporters understandably worried about Hojlund’s potential overexertion in these friendly matches and the risk of further injuries. Fortunately, everything has proceeded according to plan.

Rasmus Hojlund was utilized sparingly during the recent matches. While he commenced playing over the weekend in Denmark, he faced disappointment with a loss against Switzerland.

Despite Denmark hosting the relatively weaker team, Faroe Islands, last night, Hojlund could have been given more playing time to boost his confidence and potentially score more goals.

However, Denmark’s manager, Kasper Hjulmand, opted to keep Hojlund on the bench for the majority of the match, only allowing him to play for the final 11 minutes.

Denmark had already secured a 2-0 lead by the end of the game, during which Hojlund had a brief appearance, touching the ball only six times.

Despite not attempting a shot, Hojlund did manage to create one chance, showcasing some impressive performance.

In an interview with Tipsbladet, the Manchester United striker stated, “I have gone through a challenging recovery process, but now I am fully fit and ready to compete.”

He added, “I believe I’ve played more matches than I’ve had full training sessions since my return, so it’s logical to consider the minutes I’ve had this time.”

The decision to utilize Rasmus Hojlund sparingly against the Faroe Islands demonstrated thoughtful management by the Denmark coach. Given Denmark’s comfortable position in the game, there was no pressing need for Hojlund’s involvement.

Prior to the match, Hjulmand had affirmed, “He will play on Saturday, and then we’ll assess the situation from there.” He emphasized the importance of prudent decision-making regarding Hojlund’s return to play, considering his recent injury.

Hjulmand’s commitment to a well-thought-out plan was evident, ensuring that Hojlund wasn’t unnecessarily risked. Consequently, Hojlund will return to Manchester United this weekend refreshed and prepared to start against Brentford.
