Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago Alcantara – Liverpool injury updates and their return ahead of Leicester clash

Liverpool will aim to continue their strong start to the season on Wednesday night when they host Leicester City in the Carabao Cup opener at Anfield.

Sunday’s 3-1 victory over West Ham at Anfield improved the Reds’ Premier League record to five wins out of six so far this year. With a 3-1 Europa League victory at LASK, Jurgen Klopp’s squad has been nearly flawless in all competitions.

Klopp is expected to make substitutions against the Foxes, but he may need to check on a handful of first-team players.
Alexander-Arnold, Trent

Trent Alexander-Arnold took a knock in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa, limping off and direct down the tunnel with just under 20 minutes to play.

Jurgen Klopp acknowledged after the game that it was a hamstring injury and that the Liverpool fullback has not played in the three weeks since.

Alexander-Arnold has resumed running but had not yet returned to complete training in time for West Ham’s match against Tottenham on September 30. However, he may be available to face Tottenham on that date.

Anticipated return date:September.

Thiago Alcantara

Before enduring a setback in August, Thiago Alcantara was close to making his long-awaited return to the field.

On August 27, Jurgen Klopp announced that Thiago would return to training following the match against Newcastle, but the Spaniard returned too soon and has not played since.

“Thiago suffered a minor setback. “He began training with the team but suffered a minor setback, so we need to slow down a bit,” Klopp said.

It’s not okay for him or for us, but that’s the way it is. I am confident that Thiago will use the September international holiday for this purpose. It should ideally be sufficient. The remaining items are available.”

Thiago continues to train separately from the main group, but Liverpool hopes to reintegrate him shortly.

Bradley

The youthful fullback played 90 minutes in each of two preseason matches in Germany, demonstrating his potential.

Following a minor, unspecified injury, he was left out of the group that traveled to Singapore, and he has not been included in any matchday selections since the beginning of the season, though he has participated in training since his teammates returned to England.

Once recovered, the Northern Irishman is expected to slot into Klopp’s plans as Alexander-Arnold’s backup, having established himself in League One last season with Bolton Wanderers.
