Mauricio Pochettino discloses controversial pursuit for Leipzig player as Chelsea take massive risk
Mauricio Pochettino has outlined Christopher Nkunku’s initial role at Chelsea.
The 25-year-old forward is rumored to have signed a pre-contract agreement to join the Blues this summer; however, a few final issues must be resolved before his transfer becomes official.
football.london has learned that the west London club has sent scouts to monitor the RB Leipzig star over the past two seasons, and they were extremely impressed by what they saw.
Despite missing two months of the season, Nkunku and Niclas Fulldrug each scored 16 goals to share the Bundesliga golden boot.
It is believed that Chelsea has already paid the £53 million release clause for the France international, which becomes active this summer.
Furthermore, football.london has learned that Nkunku is eager to move to Stamford Bridge and that he was impressed by the way the Blues handled his transfer.
In recent seasons at the Red Bull Arena, the Frenchman has played as a center forward, an attacking midfielder, and occasionally a winger.
On the one hand, Nkunku’s versatility in the final third is viewed as a tremendous asset, whereas others are concerned that he is ‘position-less’ and requires permission to roam.
Earlier this year, he was informed in an interview with Football Manager that 28% of FM players utilize him as an attacking midfielder. When questioned about the statistic, Nkunku responded, “I believe that position suits me well.
